

Rainy cool weather makes the bees cross, so on warm sunny days we put on our coveralls and veils and go out to the apiary with smoker in hand to remove frames of honey. We extract and package the honey in our renovated European style barn.

In this all girl operation the queen lays eggs. Her daughters become nurses, housecleaners, ventilators of the hive, and as they grow older they become foragers and soldiers. The females have stingers the males with large eyes are friendly having no stingers, but do no work. They eat and come and go as they please all summer until cold weather when the females do not allow the males back into the hive.
